...And the winners are...
THE VOS HANDS OUT SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES TO 2024 GRADS
VOS Theatre recently awarded its annual bursaries and scholarships to deserving high school graduates at ceremonies in Cobourg and Port Hope. These awards, including the Ruth Harcort Memorial Scholarship and the Garth Watson Memorial Scholarship, recognize students who have shown exceptional dedication to the performing arts. Each recipient demonstrated a strong commitment to theatre, music, or fine arts, and will use the funds to support their post-secondary education. VOS Theatre continues to invest in the future of the arts community by encouraging and supporting young talent in Northumberland County.
The winner of the Ruth Harcort Memorial Scholarship for 2024 is FIONA MILNER. Here, newly elected VOS Theatre Board president Meghan Flindall presents Fiona with the cheque.
Since the age of 11, Fiona has been a part of the VOS family when she first appeared on stage in White Christmas. She continued in other VOS productions such as Anne of Green Gables and The Music Man and applied her stage confidence to other areas of performing such as guitar playing and has since often appeared as both a solo musician and in the duo Ladybird.
But that’s not all. She began volunteering as a guitar teacher with children in the community.
And also developed a passion for fashion. She worked on The Wizard of Oz as one of our costume sewers and done work as costume designer for short film.
This passion will take her into her post-secondary education in Fashion Design at Toronto Metropolitan University.

This year's recipient of the Garth Watson Memorial Scholarship is JOLIE MANEZ.
Set design and set construction are Jolie's primary fields of passion; from gathering references and inspiration, sketching set concepts, and crafting set mock-ups, to then bringing the vision on to the stage. Her interest in theatre sets is immense and boundless. From Legally Blonde to Godspell, while at St. Mary Secondary School, Jolie worked on set construction, scenic painting and design. She worked as Assistant Stage manager for Legally Blonde and that was the moment she knew she wanted to pursue theatre production.
Jolie will be pursuing her dream through post-secondary education in Theatre at York University.

Congratulations to all recipients and best of luck in your post-secondary endeavors. We look forward to hearing the great things in your futures.
