THE VOS ANNOUNCES THEIR 2024/2025 SEASON

This November, get ready to snap your fingers to The Addams Family and then join us in April when everyone’s favourite practically perfect nanny, Mary Poppins comes to town!

The VOS announced today that they will be presenting two musical mainstage productions and launching a new series of play readings/workshops for the 2024/2025 season.  From November 14-23, 2024, the macabre loving family is dealing with a grownup Wednesday Addams who is just entering the dating scene.  When she confides in her father (Gomez) that she has fallen in love with a ‘normal’ young man, he struggles to keep it a secret from his beloved wife Morticia as they prepare to welcome the young man and his parents for a typical Addams family dinner.

“The VOS is looking forward to bringing a musical comedy that has never been performed for Northumberland audiences before.  The characters are fun and quirky, but the underlying themes of changing family dynamics are very relatable to our audiences,” says director, Jeff Halligan (The Wizard of Oz).

Written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (the duo behind Jersey Boys) with music by Andrew Lippa (You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown), The Addams Family is directed by Jeff Halligan and produced by Nelia Amaro and Micol Marotti. Performances take place at 7:30 PM, at the Concert Hall in Victoria Hall (55 King St. West).  With weekend matinees at 2PM. Tickets will go on sale soon at the Victoria Hall box office.

Then in April, get ready to dance on the rooftops, with Bert, Jane and Michael, and their magical nanny Mary Poppins.  The musical is based on the children's books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film with music and lyrics by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman.

“Mary Poppins is one of those timeless stories that has remained in our hearts because of its joyful music and movie magic.  The VOS is ready to bring our own brand of magic to the show, and we’re sure it’s going to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!”  says VOS President, Meghan Flindall.

Starting in September, the VOS is also launching a series of play readings/workshops. The play readings will take place in the Citizen’s Forum, in Victoria Hall (55 King St. W, Cobourg).

“The play readings/workshops are a series of fun performances that feature stories by local and Ontario authors that do not require the time commitment that our musical theatre productions require.  While they are performed in front of a live audience, the venues are more intimate,” says Florence Fletcher, the series producer for the VOS.

Dan Needles takes a comedic look at what happens when a nuclear waste truck crashes into a swamp on a local dairy farm and a desperate cover up that ensues when the Minister of the Environment realizes it wasn’t nuclear waste after all.  Perils of Persephone runs on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 7PM

Then local author Lois J. Gordon explores what happens when a real murder occurs at the Annual Mystery Writers’ Conference at Crooked Bay Lodge. The authors must use their deductive skills and knowledge to find the killer in their midst. MURDER, Anonymous runs Friday, October 11, 2024 at 7 PM.  Admission is by donation.

February 2025 brings another in the series which will be announced shortly. Keep your eyes on this space for more details.

Proceeds support the VOS bursaries and scholarship programs.
