Synopsis

Alfred Hitchcock is perhaps still the best known and arguably the most influential filmmaker in the world. Many people only know the Hitchcock of his later period as the director of such films as North by Northwest, Psycho and The Birds or know him as the genial host of the long-running television show, Alfred Hitchcock Presents. But there is also a body of work of far older vintage from before he came to Hollywood. Joe Landry takes some of these early Hitchcock works and assembles a script for us which opens up a new realm of suspense, mysterious attractions and the dark roots of everyday behavior. Hitchcock was the master of suspense, thrillers, romance and was possessed of a hauntingly amusing as well as disturbing wit. Spies, murder, love and other trademarks of Alfred Hitchcock come to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast of the master of suspense’s earlier films. With The Lodger, Sabotage and The 39 Steps, Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play is a triple feature, complete with vintage commercials, that recreates a daring train chase, a serial killer’s ominous presence, and a devastating explosion through the magic of live sound effects and musical underscoring. This spooky, exciting piece is perfect for an adult Halloween outing. Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc. (www.playscripts.com)
